What we expected from the Bengals happened. They declined Cedric Ogbuehi 5th year option. In his rookie season, he was injured all year and his first two full seasons were a complete bust.
They have not decided yet whither or not to cut him yet next season. Here is the breakdown of is existing contract.
Cedric Ogbuehi signed a 4 year, $9,325,677 contract with the Cincinnati Bengals, including a $5,042,310 signing bonus, $8,728,340 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $2,331,419. In 2018, Ogbuehi will earn a base salary of $1,706,684, while carrying a cap hit of $2,967,263 and a dead cap value of $1,684,473.
The guarantee consists of
- $8.7M guaranteed (2016-17 salaries + $423,894 of 2018 salary + signing bonus)
This means he is only guaranteed the 423,894 if he is cut and takes away his dead cap value of 1.6 million. If the Bengals want to make a run at Free Agency it would be wise to cut him and save that cap space.
